Exploring the Wilderness: A Gear Overview

In a recent adventure, I embarked on my first backpacking trip as the host of this channel. Today, I'm thrilled to share a detailed rundown of the ultra light hiking gear essentials that accompanied me on this exciting journey. For those who missed the video, worry not; I've got you covered with all the details right here.

Ultra Light Hiking Clothes

Let's start with what's on my body. As someone with considerable backpacking experience, I've honed in on gear classics that make my outdoor experiences not only enjoyable but also efficient. My choice of footwear includes Altra Lone Peaks paired with Superfeet insoles for that crucial arch support.

I use wool socks by Farm to Feet, a Mountain Hardware Sun Hoodie for sun protection, Beyond Yoga leggings, and synthetic undergarments round out my on-body essentials.  No adventure is complete without my trusty fanny pack, containing everything from tissues and hand sanitizer to a journal and snacks.

Ultra Light Backpack: Hyperlite Unbound 40

Moving on to my backpack – an essential companion for any backpacking journey. The Hyperlite Mountain Gear Unbound 40 is my go-to choice for its waterproof, ultralight design with just the right amount of structure. On the outside, I've got a Garmin inReach Mini, ensuring safety is always a priority and my Sawyer water filter that I pair with 2 Smart Water bottles.

Inside the Hyperlite Mountain Gear Backpack

Inside the backpack, organization is key. Diddy bags take care of hygiene, first aid, and the essentials for nature's call. My rain jacket of choice is the Outdoor Research Helium, and an electronics bag carries my Petzl Actic Core headlamp, a lightweight 10,000mAh Nitecore battery bank, cords, and headphones.

Food and Cooking: Zpack and MSR Titanium Tea Kettle

A crucial aspect of any backpacking journey is sustenance. My food bag by Zpacks, carries a carefully curated selection, including Ramen, pretzels, peanuts, coffee, and an assortment of bars. For cooking, the MSR titanium tea kettle, at Toaks long handled spoon, paired with the BSR tiny stove works super well.

Warm Layers for the Elements

As the temperatures drop, staying warm becomes paramount. My ensemble includes an Outdoor Research beanie, Minus 33 wool gloves, and two midweight puffies – the Arc'teryx Atom and the MontBell 800-fill down puffy. A microgrid fleece hoodie by RAB, a Smartwool buff, and an extra pair of socks add versatility to my gear.

Sleeping Soundly: Thermarest NeoAir XL and Enlightened Equipment Enigma Quilt

Ensuring a restful night's sleep is crucial for the next day's adventures. The Thermarest NeoAir X-lite provides comfort, while a Sea to Summit ultralight pillow and a simple buff as a pillowcase add a touch of home. For added warmth, I brought along a silk sleeping bag liner, and my sleeping bag of choice was the 20° Enlightened Equipment Enigma quilt.

Shelter in the Wild: ZPacks Plex Solo

Last but not least, my shelter in the wilderness. The ZPacks Plex Solo, an ultralight non-freestanding tent, paired with the MSR Mini Groundhog stakes proved to be a reliable home during the trip.
